Postby erincc73 » Tue Jul 20, 2010 4:52 pm

so i got the red emulsion sheets off ebay and im having a huge problem. no matter what i try i cant get the backer to seperate cleanly. no matter how dry or wet or hot or cool i cant get it to peel off good. at best it takes clumps of it with it or just pulls peels the emulsion. id appriciate any tips or tricks you can give.

try letting it dry for an hour I know thats a long time but try it. Also maybe peel it slower? I mean I cant really offer much more advice than that as I have not worked with that emulsion. Maybe someone else will help you better

so it does seem that 1 hr is the magic number. its seems really excessive but 1 hour in the machine and the back pulls off ok, not great but ok. next issue is when you burn the inkjet transparency (trs) in it the trs. sticks to it and usually destroys one or the other. ive got 3 screens going in various stages of experimentaion but its slow going. ive already been though 7 or 8 emulsion sheets working on the issues. i was hoping someone has already gone throught he ropes before me. any ideas on the trs. sticking issue? burn in is also an issue. ive yet to get a good burn wash. part of the issue seems to be you cant see the burn in image to see when its done. the image isnt supposed to show up until its being washed. seems when i wash it it wants to come up in chunks.

I think the burn times are higher for the red/pink emulsion sheets. Pretty sure I've read that a couple times here on the boards... If the emulsion does not set long enough, it would definitely come off in clumps regardless of how dry it gets.

well in the past 12 hours that ive been working on this ive come up with a few things. first is these red sheets need to be applied on a soaking wet screen. if its just misted like a regular yudu brand sheet it just wont stick. it needs the added water to really sink into the screen. basically i soak the screen and then drop the emulsion sheet on it then squeegee the sheet and finally i quickly wipe the entire piece with a rung out sponge. dry time seems to be an hour minimum. ive tried using a hair dryer to speed it up but it still takes almost 30 min and is just such a pain to hold it for that long. looks like its either comes off nicely when dry or doesnt if its even remotely damp. it really hard to tell and the only sure way is to start slow and if you get even the slightest resistance when pulling its not dry yet. i may just say 1hr 30 min is the best time. 1 hr can be hit or miss.
im still working on the transparancey issues. i can burn the yudu brand images but anything printed is still the issue of sticking. even the yudu brand sticks badly but it does come off. the transfer sheets that are inkjetted come off but can leave the transfer material behind. im running our of sheets so im gonna try other to see is i get better results.
the actual burning is still so-so. ive set the burn to 9 mins for a few and they come out all right but fine detail is still missing. i have to be very careful when washing the image off as well. cold water is absolutely critical along with the barest of scrubing. ive been rinsing it first and letting it sit for about 30 seconds before gently hitting it with a sponge. i do get the occasional piece of emulsion that seperates from the print edge so im not doing something right. i think the soak maybe doing. ive also learned that these sheets dont really need emulsion remover to clean either. soak it long enough and it falls right off. more than 15 minutes under water and it just wipes right off. im not sure thats a good thing.
i havent tried to print any real images with my completed patterns. they all seem to have flaws and im running out of things to print on. a shirt only has so many sides. sheets maybe next though.
ill keep updating as the day goes on. hopefully ill find so new tricks or have some ideas suggested i can try.

well burning times will change greatly depending on the design. Thick big lines can burn at like 8 min, thin lines more like 12 min. If you want more detail you might need to get a different screen. I'm going to assume you have a 110 mesh screen which is made for more solid images. 220 mesh is better for higher detailed images.

try to use the search. search for things like burn times, red emulsion, pink emulsion

after playing with this stuff for weeks now i give up. its just garbage. in the end it was the wash off after burn in that ended it for me. it would just come off in clumps and was all stretchy. no smooth cleanoff. i even tried contacting the seller who only sold yudu stuff and he said he never actually tried it he just sold it. i gotta say stay away from the red emulsion sheets off ebay entirely. im actually upset that i left the seller good feedback when i initially got them.

im going to move on to the liquid setup next.
